This is one of the new generation films of India, produced by Zoya Akhtar. Now my introductory line may sound boring, but believe me the film isn’t so that much! It’s got that thing which lies between boring and adventure. Yes, it’s an adventure film, with three guys (Hrithik, Farhan and Abhinay) who go to Spain as a part of Kabir’s (Abhinay Deol) bachelorette trip. On the surface, ZNMD is about a bachelor holiday of three men, where each one of them has a daredevil task planned that all of them have to do. But beyond all the fun and games, it’s a beautifully scripted journey of the trio, who are all battling some episode from their past. We have Arjun (Hrithik Roshan) who is shown as a hardcore businessman based in London, obviously making loads of money everyday. Imran (Farhan Akhtar) is an advertising artist who really wants to got Spain, and Kabir just got engaged to Kalki.
The film’s dialogues have been written by Farhan and he’s kept the best lines for himself. One of them which sounds cool to me is: ‘Tumhara naam kya hai?’ “Laila. Tumhara?” “Imran, par dost mujhe Majnu bhi bulate hain” In a film about letting go, it’s Farhan who let’s go the most. His flamenco scene in the bedroom is an instant classic!
Hrithik is effective as the stuck up finance broker who is completely transformed in the latter half of the film. Did I forget to add that he even gave a 12000 euro handbag (Gucci or something?) to Kabir’s engaged fiancée Kalki. Of course she doesn’t get it till the end; it’s handled rather precariously all throughout the film by Imran. The way he cares for it is rather funny: )
The trio, presenting themselves as The Three Musketeers, later meet Laila (Katina Kaif) who shows them the true meaning of life. Her role? Well she is a deep sea diving instructor, who later falls in mutual love with Arjun. She may not personally come and whisper in your ear, but Katrina’s words to Hrithik hold the key to ZNMD and maybe to zindagi itself, “Be alive to each and every moment.” Not ‘in’ each and every moment. The film is truly refreshing, and in all its bewitching beauty urges you too make the switch in your life.
